Top 5 Reasons for your Cause to Participate in #GivingTuesday

It’s that time of year again. The day after you give thanks for all the wonderful things in your life, you wait in line for hours to get the cheapest… well, everything. Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become synonymous with the day the Holiday season starts, sales on electronics, and treating yourself. It can be hard to step back and think about others. #GivingTuesday reminds you that during this busy time of year, there are many people and cause organizations that could really use your help and generosity. If your cause is not already involved with December 2nd, #GivingTuesday, now is the time!

#GivingTuesday was started in 2012 in New York by the organization 92nd Street Y in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. This great cause has engaged over 10,000 organizations all over the globe. Recently, we have seen the affect that social media can have on raising funds for good causes. Look what happened with the ice bucket challenge earlier this year.  #GivingTuesday challenges consumers via social media to take a day, after the madness of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, to give back and support their favorite causes. Here are the top five reasons why your cause should participate in #GivingTuesday this year:

1. Increase donations: By promoting #GivingTuesday throughout your social media profiles, you direct potential donors back to your donation channel, give them a good reason to donate and potentially increase your donations.

2. Social media presence: Social media is such a powerful tool to use for your cause. Using the #GivingTuesday hashtag is a great form of content to add to your social media feeds during the bustle of the holidays and it will add you to a busy stream of updates, filtered by that hashtag, that have many eyeballs.

3. Directing people to your website: You will increase your visibility and educate a new audience about your awesome cause by posting and participating in #GivingTuesday.

4. Supporting a great effort: Not only are you promoting your own cause on #GivingTuesday, but you are supporting overall giving.

5. Getting in the right holiday spirit: #GivingTuesday is a great way to start the holiday season off in a giving mindset. It can set the tone for the giving season and amp up support for your cause during the holidays!

So have we convinced you of all of the awesome things #GivingTuesday has to offer your cause? Is your cause going to participate this year? I know we are!
