2020 Year in Review

Well, that didn’t go as planned, did it?

In a year that was fraught with change and uncertainty, it was more important than ever to focus on supporting each other, giving back, and remaining grateful for our good fortunes while recognizing our privileges. While 2020 was far from the year we were hoping for and our hearts are still heavy, they’re also filled with hope, pride, gratitude, and a renewed sense of purpose for who we are and what we do.

We celebrated major launches

And lots of smaller ones too. We continue to feel fortunate to work with social impact organizations working on the frontlines of some of the world’s most complex changes! 2020 also marked our first significant pro bono project, Business for Good San Diego.

We grew the team

In the midst of all the late-spring chaos, we were fortunate enough to bring on two new additions to our team. Thanks for Zooming with us, Nick and Mica 🙂

Meet Mica

Design talent and mom to the cutest pups, Mica joined our creative team in June.

Meet Nick

Dad and developer extraordinaire, Nick joined our development team in May.

We got Climate Certified!

The Offset Climate Certification has helped us reduce 153.6 metric tonnes of global CO2 emissions to date, in ways that benefit the planet and people both locally and globally. We encourage you to explore this certification as a way for your business to take convenient and credible climate action.

We participated in #GivingTuesday (twice!)

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Every year we take the opportunity to support our team and the causes we believe in most. Learn more about the organizations our team supported this year on #GivingTuesday and #GivingTuesdayNOW.

We fought for democracy

We joined a small but growing group of companies both big and small that gave their team the day off to vote.

See Why

Visceral is proud to have been a sponsor of this documentary film about the rise of social entrepreneurs. As a Certified B Corp and overall advocate of using business as a force for good in the world, we feel it’s important to spread this message.

We invested in our community…

We’re always looking for ways to support our community in San Diego and beyond and 2020 was no exception. While we missed our quarterly volunteer opportunities, we still found ways to contribute:

We were a proud sponsor of ComNetworkV, The Communications Network’s first-ever virtual conference with amazing speakers such as Dr. Clarence B Jones and Stacey Abrams.

We participated in the Cause Conference summer webinar series where CEO Jay was on a panel to discuss “Lessons from B Corps: How to Build a Just and Equitable Economy

We supported Black Visions Collective in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, along with some pro bono work to help our friends at the Central San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce to help raise money for their Black Business Relief Grant Fund.

We sponsored our amazing client, ECOLIFE Conservation, in support of their virtual cruise fundraising gala.

We switched to a local bank and added values-aligned investment options to our team’s retirement funds.

We were recognized as one of San Diego Business Journal’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies.

…and our team.

Visceral would not exist without the talent and dedication of our team. While many small businesses struggled to make ends meet in 2020, we feel fortunate to have weathered the storm while also increasing compensation for the people who make the magic happen:

cost of health, dental, and vision provided to each member of our team

of our profits shared across the team as a profit pool

Given to each member of the team for professional development

Hours on Zoom (yes our eyes are bleeding too)

Thank You!

If you’re reading this, it’s because you’re part of our community; our clients, our team, and our partners. We wouldn’t be able to do any of this without your faith and trust in us, and we’ll never stop being grateful for that.
